Installation Instructions
To install, simply double-click on the MSI file that you’ve just downloaded. The installer will guide you through. To play, you can click on the short cut that is created for you automatically under the name, Holdem Poker.
Platform Support
All Windows XP editions.
Windows Server 2003/2005 should be supported, but I haven’t tested it yet.
Windows Vista NOT supported.
Beta Testers
Thanks to all those who have tested and given back invaluable comments and feedback. Many of those have been incorporated into the game. Thanks again!
Known Issues
Version 1.0 should have covered most issues. However so, I’ll be upfront and open with what’s still lacking or missing.
Resolved issues since release 1.0
- Slightly increased the download size, made short-cut addition as an optional feature
- Fixed a bug that makes incorrect calculations of the cash factor in release mode
- Fixed a bug in the AI scheduler that hangs due to lack of joining parties
- Fixed a bug that makes Hold’em Poker crash if you select Blind factor to be 0.5x
- Added 2 liner credits to the bottom of the screen of the main page
Release Version 1 IS OUT!!
Another crash could occur during hibernations and standby modes. Hibernation is not supported and is highly discouraged as it would be for any other games out there. Do not hibernate while Hold’em Poker is opened. As for standby modes, I’ve yet to identify the root problem for crashing. Bottomline, when you play, don’t AFK.
Fixed Issues in Release 1.0
- NEW! : New soundtrack for main menu and in-game screen!
- NEW! : New sound effects for every action!
- NEW! : The ultimate card-to-card comparison is finally done!
- NEW! : A unique sprite for each action that occured in the game, rather than the plain and boring text
- NEW! : The following options are implemented for the game
- Game speed (fast, normal, slow)
- Show-down speed (Immediate, complete)
- Blind factor (x2, x1, x0.5)
- AI level (Hard, Normal, Easy)
- Starting cash (More Cash, Normal Cash, Less Cash)
- Shut down Z-buffer for this game. Now sprites appear in proper order and doesn’t have pixel testing causing X-ray effects.
- Chips breakdown algorithm now works properly.
- NEW! - A proper show-down sequence added into the game. Slows the game down, but clearly indicates why or who’s winning
- Changed/Improved some assets in the resource folder.
- The pot is now smaller due to some redesign.
- Fixed an issue with “Application not installed properly” error. VS2005 requires exporting of certain C++ libraries. Now included along with the ZIP file
- Fixed a time factor glitch in the library that allows graphical objects to move more than they should
- Fixed All-In turn queue issue
- Fixed Bet/Call/Raise passing without paying bug due to lack of chips. Now chips will auto-liquidate for all bets
- Fixed a time factor glitch in the library that allows graphical objects to move in the “reverse” directions
- Fixed an issue when an AI player leaves the table, distribution of cards will lead to a crash
- Fixed an issue when an AI player who has left was asked to call, thus crashing the game.
- Fixed an issue that hits non-developer machines. Now pure gaming(non-development) machines can also play this game.
- Fixed an issue when an endless loop runs even though player has no money left.
- Used pure release libraries and DLLs for this build. Therefore it’ll work across all Windows systems.
- Added final states for the game. Which means, now you can actually hit Game Over or become the Grand Winner of the game
- An AEP tool was used to “clean up” the codes, which means it’s more stable than previous versions
This project took approximately 1 full month to complete and spilled over a period of 3 months due to other matters like game engine features, editor features and so on…
